A beautiful collaborative work of two photographers & poets, this haunting combination of film, words, and voice was created on a camera obscura made of recycled parts.

The operating principle is that of the first camera obscura invented in the mid-16th century. A wooden box with a lens or a simple pinhole, inside a small frame with ordinary paper made translucent by melted wax and a hole on the opposite side of the box. Light enters through the lens or pinhole and is projected backward onto the screen. From the rear hole I see the image I’m framing and I photograph it digitally.

The low quality, the distortion, the out of focus and the vignette effect are the added value of my camera obscura, built with recycled materials, including the lenses sometimes disassembled from old photocopiers or simply magnifying reading lenses or pinholes made from aluminum cans

The low quality of the image that is projected on the paper screen creates images that harken back to the first attempts at cine/photography

I filter reality through the deformed images that are created inside my darkrooms, focusing is totally manual and difficult and this makes taking a photograph very slow. Looking into the camera is like being able to see directly behind the eyes of the beholder … and everyone has their own field of vision. – Michele Farinelli
